TPD Investigates Shooting on South Adams Street
June 20, 2019
Update: June 21
TPD has arrested Xavier Barkley in connection with the homicide on South Adams Street. The investigation revealed that Barkley and the victim were inside Clippers Barbershop, 1815 South Adams Street. Barkley retrieved a handgun from his waist band and shot the victim causing the victim to fall to the ground. Barkley picked up the victim’s child and pointed the muzzle of the handgun towards the child’s head. Witnesses pleaded for Barkley to release the child and began walking towards Barkley. Barkley pointed the handgun at the witnesses before turning towards the victim on the ground and shooting the victim a second time. Barkley then released the child and walked away from the scene.
At approximately 7:06 pm citizens alerted officers and investigators on scene that Barkley had returned on foot just north of the crime scene. Barkley was immediately taken into custody and transported to TPD for questioning. After an exhaustive investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit and consultation with the State Attorney’s Office, probable cause was established to charge Barkley with Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Kidnapping/Confine Child under 13 Years of Age. Barkley was transported to the Leon County Detention Facility for booking.
