MLK Day Parade to Celebrate Diversity, Equality and Inclusion
Reverse-style, Drive-thru Parade Offers Mix of Exhibits and Entertainment
January 12, 2021
To commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and in recognition of his life-long efforts toward social justice and equality, the City of Tallahassee will host a reverse-style, drive-thru parade on Monday, Jan. 18, from noon to 2 p.m.
The uniquely formatted parade will take place along Monroe Street between Tennessee Street and Pensacola Street. Participants, which include a diverse and energetic mix of exhibits and entertainment, will be stationary along either side of the road. To experience the parade, spectators will travel in their vehicles southbound along the parade route.
To ensure the safety of parade participants and spectators, the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) will close Monroe Street from Tennessee Street to Gaines Street from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday. Side streets one block to the east and west of the parade area will also be closed during this time.
Tennessee Street will remain open to through traffic only. Spectators will need to access the parade route from the left-hand, southbound lane of Monroe Street only. Signage, as well as TPD officers, will help guide vehicles through the parade area.
