Silver Stars Gala Recognizes Shining Seniors
Tallahassee Senior Services to Honor Exceptional Service on May 25
May 22, 2017
Tallahassee Senior Services is once again preparing for the community's premier senior recognition event – the 16th annual Silver Stars Gala and Awards Ceremony. "Silver Stars" are individuals who exemplify active aging and continue to contribute to the community in positive ways. This year, nine individuals will be honored for their exceptional service at the "A Night Among the Stars" Gala on Thursday, May 25.
This year's Silver Stars award recipients are Rita and Jesse Hodsdon; Emily Millett; Annie Rolle; Ronald R. Spencer; Frances Stallworth, Ph.D.; Edward M. Vertuno, Ed.D; Fred H. Williams, Ph.D.; and Rhonda S. Work, Ph.D.
"Our community is a better place because of these outstanding individuals," Commissioner Gil Ziffer said. "We can all be proud of their accomplishments and thankful that as active and engaged seniors, they choose to call Tallahassee home."
Silver Stars come from all walks of life, and these honorees, in addition to their community contributions, have had an extraordinary range of life experiences, such as rescuing an 8-foot long Burmese python from a local apartment and teaching the English language to Chinese students. Regardless of their experiences, they all share the commonality of inspiring others to live well and stay involved in the community.
In addition to honoring the Silver Stars, long-time volunteers will be recognized for their service.
The Silver Stars Gala will take place on Thursday, May 25, at 6 p.m. at the University Center Club at Florida State University (FSU). Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased for $40/single, $75/couple and $360 for a table of 10. To purchase tickets, please call 891-4003.
