Sewer Installation on Blair Stone Road Begins Next Week
Southbound Traffic to Detour at Orange Avenue
June 11, 2013
On Monday, June 17, construction will begin on the second portion of a sewer infrastructure enhancement project near Blair Stone Road and Orange Avenue. This portion of the work will impact southbound traffic on Blair Stone Road between Orange and New Village avenues. To decrease traffic impacts and reduce the construction period, work is being split into two phases.
The first phase will take place on Blair Stone Road between Orange Avenue and Paul Russell Road. Beginning at 9 a.m. on June 17, southbound traffic will be detoured at Orange Avenue east to Capital Circle. Traffic turning off of Paul Russell Road to head south on Blair Stone Road will not be impacted. This traffic pattern is anticipated to last for approximately 45 days.
Following completion of this work, construction will shift to phase two between Paul Russell Road and New Village Avenue, near the side entrance to the Southwood Village shopping center. During this phase, southbound traffic will be permitted up to Paul Russell Road. Orange Avenue will continue to be used as a detour. Access to the Southwood Village shopping center and other area businesses will not be obstructed.
Northbound traffic on Blair Stone Road will not be impacted during either phase.
The entire project is expected to be completed by mid-September. During construction, the City’s Traffic Management Division will monitor the signal timing along the entire detour route. This will help keep traffic flowing effectively in the area.
The first portion of this project took place along Orange Avenue between Jim Lee Road and Blair Stone Road. The project’s overall purpose is to provide sewer service to properties along Orange Avenue and Blair Stone Road and improve the City’s ability to manage the sanitary sewer system during service interruptions along Capital Circle.
Motorists are reminded to reduce their speed through construction zones. This creates a safer environment for everyone.
