The City of Tallahassee today announced that Jay Townsend, Assistant City Manager for Transportation and Development, will be serving as interim director of the Tallahassee Regional Airport (TLH) following the resignation of Airport Director Sunil Harman. Harman submitted his resignation to the City of Tallahassee on June 27, and last night, the Okaloosa County Commission approved naming Harman as its new airport director.
"We wish Sunil the very best in his future endeavors and appreciate the strides he helped accomplish at our airport," said Jay Townsend, Assistant City Manager for Development & Transportation. "These last few years have continued to be challenging times for mid-size airports, and we are pleased that customers are continuing to see the benefit of using TLH as represented in our growing passenger counts."
Harman was appointed the director of the Tallahassee Regional Airport on May 31, 2011, following previous experience as the division director for Airport Planning, Land-Use Compatibility & Grants Management at the Miami Dade Airport. In his resignation letter, Harman gave an effective resignation date of July 19.
"I am committed to assisting you in the interim to make this transition as smooth as possible and remain available to assist you after my departure," Harman wrote.
"We're fortunate that Jay Townsend has supervised the airport for many years and also directed airport operations previously," said City Manager Anita Favors Thompson. "Jay can maintain the forward movement and accomplishments at the airport until we have a new director in place."
The City will immediately begin its search for a new airport director.
