Utility Upgrades on North Monroe Street
Construction Will Take Place Overnight to Reduce Traffic Impacts
January 05, 2018
As part of the City of Tallahassee’s continued investment in infrastructure, a major project along North Monroe Street is beginning. Aging water and sewer utilities under North Monroe Street between John Knox and Thomasville roads will be replaced over the coming months. These upgrades will provide ample capacity for growing demands while ensuring safe, reliable, efficient service for customers, including area businesses. This work is being completed in advance of the Florida Department of Transportation’s paving work along the corridor scheduled for late 2018.
Construction will take place at night between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Friday. Limited portions of the corridor will be impacted nightly, and one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained. At the end of each evening’s construction activities, the driving surface will be restored with asphalt patching, and all travel lanes will be re-opened to traffic for daytime use. Access to local businesses will be maintained.
Variable message boards and barricades with flashing lights will clearly route traffic around the construction zones. Motorists traveling in these areas at night should use caution and expect lane closures.
Multiple construction crews will work on the project simultaneously to expedite the project. Construction is expected to be finished by the end of July.
