City-County Announce Planning Manager Appointment

Cherie Bryant has been named as the Planning Manager for the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Department (TLCPD). Her appointment was announced today by City Manager Anita Favors Thompson and Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long, as the position serves both City and County governments.
Bryant began her professional career in 1996 with the Florida Department of Community Affairs; after two years, she took a position as a project manager with Summit Professional Services where she helped prepare federal and state grant applications. In 2001, Bryant joined the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Department as the Land Use Senior Planner. She has since held several key positions within the department including Transportation Planner, Acting Land Use Manager, Special Projects Manager and Manager of the Comprehensive Planning and Urban Design division. Bryant has served since July 2013 as the Interim Planning Manager for the TLCPD, responsible for comprehensive planning and land use administration services.
As Planning Manager, Bryant will manage a staff of 26 people. She will report to Wayne Tedder, Director of Planning, Land Management and Community Enhancement (PLACE).
"Cherie brings a wealth of planning and development experience to this position," said Tedder. "In particular, her work with the sense of place projects has proven invaluable from a planning and economic development perspective."
During her tenure with the Planning Department, Bryant has been involved in many multi-departmental projects including the development of the Multimodal Transportation District, the Greenways Program master plan and sense of place projects, including Gaines St. and Midtown.
Bryant holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Birmingham Southern College and a master's degree in Planning from Florida State University. She is a member of the American Association of Certified Planners. Bryant has also served as Treasurer (2005 – 2007) and Chair (2007- 2009) of the Capital Area section of the American Planning Association.
