Spruce Up Your Home with "Cash for Trash"
April 14, 2014
Celebrate Earth Month by Cashing in Your Old Household Items - Get a leg up on your spring cleaning with the City of Tallahassee's biannual Cash for Trash event this Saturday, April 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cash for Trash allows City residential utility customers to bring household trash items that are too large to fit in their 96-gallon garbage container to the Solid Waste Services facility on Municipal Way for proper disposal. As a thank you for participating in Saturday's event, City residential utility customers will receive $5 off their utility bill.
To receive the credit, residential customers utilizing the program must present a City utility bill before unloading materials. Customers can make multiple trips, however only one credit per utility bill will be provided. This allows customers disposing of items for their neighbors to do so and assist them in reaping the benefits of the Cash for Trash program.
Though the City encourages residential customers to use their every-other-week bulky item collection service for disposing of large items at the curbside, the Cash for Trash program provides an alternative system – especially important for apartment dwellers or anyone with a number of large items to dispose. Items customers may bring include old furniture, large and small household appliances, large toys and tires (limit of four per customer).
Residents may also bring household hazardous waste and electronic items (including all computer parts) to Cash for Trash for disposal/recycling by Leon County's Solid Waste Division.
No commercial customers. Also, no household garbage, construction/demolition debris or yard waste will be accepted.
Customers taking part in Cash for Trash should bring items to the City's Solid Waste Services facility located at 2727 Municipal Way (just off West Pensacola Street near the Messer Field softball complex).
Cash for Trash is just of one the programs that the City provides to help you live green and save green. Throughout the month of April, the City is celebrating Earth Month by hosting and participating in several earth-friendly events and activities throughout the community.
