City’s Summer Youth Employment Program Concludes with 2018 Award Ceremony
July 24, 2018
This Friday, July 27, the Tallahassee Future Leaders Academy (TFLA) will host its 2018 Award Ceremony to highlight the hard work of more than 225 local teens as this year’s program comes to an end. The celebration will take place at The Moon, located at 1105 E. Lafayette Street, at 6 p.m.
TFLA participants who have demonstrated the highest level of professionalism will be recognized. In addition, TFLA mentors will be recognized for their contributions and commitment to providing meaningful work experiences.
“Since its inception in 2015, TFLA has helped more than 600 local youths sharpen new skills and gain vital work experience,” Mayor Andrew Gillum said. “This year’s participants worked hard and showed great professionalism. I’m proud of their dedication, and I am exceedingly thankful to our private and nonprofit sector partners for their support and the chance that they gave these young people. I know this is an experience they won’t soon forget.”

TFLA is an international and national award-winning program. It is an eight-week program that begins with two weeks of job readiness training followed by six weeks of paid employment. Employment placements are offered through the City, non-profit organizations and local businesses. Additionally, the program offers leadership training, career development, financial literacy education, college campus tours and professional certifications. The program began as part of the City’s efforts to increase opportunities for young people located in Tallahassee’s “Promise Zones” but has expanded to include a broader sector of the City’s youth.
