With Your Help, StarMetro Stuffed the Bus
5,714 Pounds of Food Collected to Benefit Second Harvest
March 12, 2019
The results are in. Thanks to generous community donations, StarMetro’s annual Stuff the Bus food drive yielded 5,714 pounds of non-perishable food to benefit America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend.
During the month-long campaign, StarMetro collected non-perishable food donations on buses, at City facilities and throughout the community at more than 50 partner locations. The donated food items, combined with cash donations from StarMetro’s partners, will provide more than 4,762 meals for residents in need.
“Tallahassee is a community that cares, and the success of this food drive demonstrates what we can accomplish when we work together,” Mayor Pro Tem Curtis Richardson said. “The City is excited to partner with Second Harvest and provide support during this time of year when donations are needed.”
February and March are traditionally slow months for food donations at Second Harvest, but the need in the community does not change. Currently, one in five people in the Big Bend do not know where their next meal will come from. America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend tackles this issue of food insecurity by providing thousands of healthy meals to residents in need.
“No one in this community should have to experience hunger,” Rick Minor, CEO of Second Harvest, said. “With the help of the City of Tallahassee, through StarMetro, we can continue to fight hunger and feed hope.”
