StarMetro Implements Changes to Better Meet Customer Demand
Ride Fare Free August 3-5
August 02, 2019
This Saturday, August 3, StarMetro, the City of Tallahassee’s mass transit system, will implement route and schedule changes to improve the overall system’s effectiveness and efficiency. In response to customer feedback, these system updates will increase service on high-traffic routes during peak commuting hours and shorten wait times between transfers both at C.K. Steele Plaza and in the field.
To help customers familiarize themselves with the system changes, StarMetro will offer fare free service on all fixed routes from Saturday through Monday, August 3-5.
Prior to implementing these system updates, StarMetro conducted a 30-day listening session period in late spring, which entailed numerous community meetings and pop-up events, as well as online surveys, to gain input from citizens on proposed changes. A second round of modifications were performed based on public feedback from the 30-day listening period. A second round of engagements were performed to inform the public of the changes that were approved.
To view the full route change map and schedules, please visit Talgov.com. Below are notable updates to the system:
- The San Luis route will split, creating a new route called Hartsfield (H route). The Hartsfield route will cover the western portion of the previous San Luis route, providing service along Hartsfield Road, down Monroe Street and through Levy Park and Frenchtown. This new route will provide access for students to Raa Middle School, Ruediger Elementary School and the LaVerne Payne Community Center along Fourth Avenue. The altered San Luis route will now provide service in both directions along John Knox Road, in the Macon community and along Surgeon’s Drive, enhancing access to medical facilities near Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. The San Luis route will no longer travel south of Mahan Drive.
- The Canopy route will be absorbed by the Osceola and Azalea routes.
- The Tall Timbers route will now only serve the west side of its current route. The east side of the Tall Timbers route will merge with the Red Hills route, creating a connection directly into C.K. Steele Plaza.
- The Azalea route will provide additional service along Mission Road and White Drive. Also, another bus will be added to the western portion of the Azalea route and to the southern portion of the Big Bend route to enhance service frequency.
- The Killearn route will no longer turn onto Village Square Blvd. to loop the Village Commons shopping center; the route will stay straight and provide added stops along Thomasville Road. The Red Hills route will continue to provide service around the shopping center.
- The Park route will change to operate on a 30-minute frequency all day with an earlier start up time.
- The Evergreen route will service Governors Square Mall on weekends only.
- The Forest route will service St. Augustine Street between Varsity Drive and Copeland Street on its inbound trip to C.K. Steele Plaza. Outbound, the route will continue to service Jefferson Street.
- The Gulf, Live Oak, Moss and Southwood routes will have no changes.
