Treasurer-Clerk Gary Herndon
Herndon directs the activities of the Office of the Treasurer-Clerk, overseeing a staff of 55 employees in five operating divisions. In addition to administration of the City treasury and clerical/record-keeping functions, the office also is responsible for risk management and revenue functions, managing the City's investment portfolio, and operating the City's employee retirement program.
Herndon, a Certified Public Accountant with 25 years experience in local government finance, was appointed Deputy City Treasurer-Clerk in 1999. Prior to joining the City, he served as Assistant County Administrator for Citrus County, Florida, and also served as Finance Director/Budget Officer for Citrus County for 17 years. Herndon also worked as an auditor for the State of Florida's Office of the Auditor General, and as Chief Accountant for the Pasco County, Florida Clerk of the Courts. He earned bachelors degrees in finance from Florida State University and in accounting from the University of South Florida.
