March 27, 2013
This Saturday, March 30, the City of Tallahassee Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department (PRNA) will celebrate Opening Day 2013 for its youth recreational softball and baseball programs. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., PRNA will host a variety of activities at the Tom Brown Softball Complex.
Youth athletes ages 7-14 (as of July 17, 2013) can take part in the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run competition. Registration for the PHR competition will be from 9-9:30 a.m., and participants can drop by any time from 9:30 a.m. to noon to take their turn. Each player averages about 15 minutes to complete all three events. For more information about the rules, visit mlb.com/phr.
Players can also take part in free clinics. Baseball clinics will be offered from 10-11:15 a.m. on Field 1 and led by staff from Next Level Professional Baseball. The softball clinic will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and led by players from the Tallahassee Eagles, Tallahassee Community College's softball team.
There will also be an exciting exhibition coaches' game at 11:30 a.m. on Field 3. Watch your favorite coaches battle it out with sportsmanship and skill. There will be a bounce house, face painting and more! The Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center will also be on site doing animal adoptions.
Lunch will be available for purchase on-site from the concession stand and Kona Ice. Chick-fil-a will be doing giveaways.
