Parking Changes on Gaines Street
October 11, 2013
Gaines Street is one of Tallahassee's oldest commercial hubs. The district continues to be an economic driver thanks to the vibrant, eclectic, primarily locally owned businesses that define the community. It's also home to a variety of state offices, and a growing number of citizens now call the area home. With so many residents, business patrons and downtown workers all converging on one area though, it can be difficult to find a place to park during the week.
To help customers access area businesses, grab lunch and visit the district, the public parking spaces located along Gaines Street have been outfitted with traditional single space meters. Each space will cost 50 cents per hour. The maximum time limit is 2 hours for spaces located west of Railroad Avenue and 4 hours for those located east of Railroad Avenue.* These meters only accept change. Parking enforcement for these spaces will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. on weekdays only. Enforcement begins on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
42 meters have been installed along Gaines St. from Woodward Ave. to S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., and four meters have been installed between Duval and Adams streets.

* Updated on 10/16/13 to clarify parking time limits.
