The City of Tallahassee's fiscal years begins on October 1 and ends September 30. In the spring, the City begins an annual budget preparation process, which includes opportunities for citizen's participation through Public Hearings and community-wide informational meetings. The process concludes with the adoption of a final budget in September by the City Commission. Detailed information concerning The City of Tallahassee budgets for FY 2010 - FY 2015 are provided below.
Public Safety Millage Calculator
Tallahassee has experienced a major increase in violent crime across the community (20%). The recommended balanced FY16 budget focuses on addressing the public safety needs of the community and protecting the quality of life for Tallahassee families and businesses. In order to address public safety needs, the City is proposing to increase the millage rate. The Tallahassee City Commission, on July 8, 2015 set the tentative millage rate at 4.55 mills. For the average homeowner ($150,000 value with $50,000 exemption), this would equate to a monthly increase of $7.08 per month.
It's important to note that the increase does not impact the entire tax bill. With the proposed 4.55 mills, the City's portion of your property tax bill is only 22 percent of your bill.
