Neighborhood Grants
Neighborhood Partnership Grant Program
The City of Tallahassee established the Neighborhood Partnership Grant (NPG) program in 1995 to give neighborhood organizations access to City funds in order to improve the quality of life in Tallahassee's neighborhoods. Projects that will improve the physical, public safety, cultural, recreational or educational conditions in Tallahassee's neighborhoods are eligible if they meet NPG guidelines.
Neighborhood organizations may match the City's contribution with volunteer time, in-kind donations of goods and services or financial contributions. The value of the neighborhood's contribution must be equal to or greater than the City's grant.
The purpose of the NPG program is to support emerging and established neighborhood organizations that are working creatively on significant neighborhood-based issues and concerns. The intent is to empower neighborhood groups to effectively plan and implement solutions to neighborhood concerns. Neighborhood organizations receiving NPG funds must sign an agreement stipulating adherence to the terms of the grant. The maximum grant award per neighborhood is $2,500.00. A neighborhood may apply for more than one grant per year provided that the maximum grant amount requested in any given year does not exceed $2,500.00. The intent of the NPG program is to distribute grant funds equally to all areas of the City of Tallahassee.
The City of Tallahassee's Neighborhood and Community Services Department administers the program and staff members will provide technical assistance to each grant recipient. Applications are available in the Neighborhood and Community Services Administration office located at 435 North Macomb Street, Tallahassee, Florida, 32301. Neighborhood Meeting Notification Sign Program
Project Description
This program provides assistance to neighborhood associations in noticing residents of impending neighborhood association meetings and is designed to specifically promote and encourage citizen participation in neighborhood meetings. A grant is available through the Neighborhood Partnership Grant Program for the purchase of signs by an association and placement prior to and removal after the meeting by volunteer neighborhood residents.
The neighborhood meeting notification sign will be installed no more than seven (7) days prior to a neighborhood meeting date and will be removed within 24 hours of the meeting date. The first violation or non compliance of these requirements will be cause for the removal of the sign by the City of Tallahassee Code Enforcement staff and the responsible neighborhood association will be notified of the violation of the agreement. Three violations to the agreement will require the permanent removal of all Neighborhood Meeting Notification signs furnished by the City of Tallahassee and notification to responsible Neighborhood Association President of their ineligibility to participate in this program.
Procedure
Applications are available at the Neighborhood and Community Services administration office located at 208 West Carolina Street or can be printed from this site (PDF). If you have questions about the program or completion of the application, please call neighborhood Services at 891-6500.
A permit for placement of the signs in the right of way must be obtained from the Streets and Drainage Division. An onsite review is required of the selected locations for placement to ensure safe and proper placement. Contact Cleve Atchley at 891-5300 for this permit. After completion of the application and securing of the permit, both must be forwarded to the Neighborhood Partnership Grant Coordinator for review and approval. Once the application has been approved, the applicant is then authorized to select a vendor to fabricate the sign(s).
Costs for labor and material of a sign (similar to a real estate sign) are estimated at $50.00. Funding assistance is available through the Neighborhood Partnership Grant Program. This Program allows for a 50% match by the City and the neighborhood match can include the labor by designated neighborhood volunteers for replacing and removing the signage at a rate of $10.00 per hour per person. More information can be obtained through the Neighborhood and Community Services Division at 891-6500.
