The Tallahassee City Commission has authorized an innovative new process, known as single stream recycling, to make it even easier to recycle.
As one of the state’s first municipalities to offer curbside recycling nearly a quarter of a century ago, the City has a longstanding commitment to providing the highest level of customer service while conserving natural resources and protecting the environment.
Your Own Utilities has begun implementing the single stream recycling method for all City Solid Waste Services residential customers within City limits.
That means if you are a residential Solid Waste Services customer, you will no longer need to sort recyclable materials into the two sections of your Smart Cart. Just combine all paper, metal and plastic recyclables together on both sides of the cart.
Simply put: all you have to do is place all the recyclable items together in your cart.
It’s easy, and the new process has many advantages. Studies show that single-stream recycling can increase the volume of recyclable materials, while improving customer convenience and operational efficiency.
What’s more, the anticipated increase in recycling will help conserve more natural resources and decrease the amount of debris that ends up in the landfill. The recycled materials will continue to be sold to local processors and remanufacturing companies that make new products from the recycled materials.
All in all, it’s a smart move for a smart community committed to a sustainable future. And it’s what you have come to expect from Your Own Utilities – the #1 Public Utility in America.
