To help Tallahassee’s expanding senior population connect with resources and information, the Tallahassee Senior Center will host a series of events this fall, including the ever-popular Active Living Expo, the Tallahassee Active Lifelong Leaders (TALL) Class 10 Preview Reception, the Red Carpet Welcome and a panel discussion for caregivers.
“The Tallahassee Senior Center offers something for every member of our older and senior population,” City Commissioner Gil Ziffer said. “From the Active Living Expo to the Tallahassee Active Lifelong Leaders program to the Red Carpet Welcome, our senior center has a variety of fall offerings that are sure to help keep our seniors vibrant and thriving.”
The 19th annual Active Living Expo will take place Thursday and Friday, Oct. 12 - 13. From 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, more than 80 exhibitors will provide information on local health and community resources. The Expo is open to the public, and the $3 admission ticket is good for both days. Complimentary valet parking will be available.
The event features numerous interactive displays, demonstrations, door prizes, information and – new this year – a special section with downsizing resources. Health screenings and flu shots will also be available both days. Bring your Medicare or CHP card.
The event is sponsored by “Presenting Sponsor” Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, Tallahassee Democrat, City of Tallahassee Senior Services and other generous sponsors. For more information, email Kristy.Carter@Talgov.com or call 891-4008.
The Tuesday night before the Active Living Expo, there will be a TALL Class 10 Preview Reception. Its purpose is to provide actively engaged adults with snapshots of the cultural, political, safety, legal, justice, educational and health and human services climate of our community. The Preview Reception will be held on Tue., Oct. 10, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Senior Center. Previous participants will attend to share their experiences, and applications will be available. If you can’t attend the reception or already know you’d like to participate, email Hella.Spellman@Talgov.com or call 891-4007.
Calling all caregivers! Decision Points for Caregivers will be held on Oct. 20 at 10. a.m. at Thomasville Road Baptist Church.
