Applicants Sought for Ethics Board

The City of Tallahassee is currently accepting applications to fill Seat 1 on the Independent Ethics Board. Seat 1 is the position filled by the City Commission. The deadline to apply is Nov. 27, 2017. The term of the current member filling Seat 1 will expire December 31, 2017, so the newly selected candidate will serve a three-year term from Jan. 1, 2018, to Dec. 31, 2020, and be eligible for reappointment to a second term.
The role of the Ethics Board, approved by the citizens of Tallahassee on the November 2014 ballot, is to develop an ethics code, manage the City’s ethics and fraud hotline and be responsible for training all employees and officials in accordance to state and local ethics requirements. The Ethics Board is also able to propose ordinances and charter amendments to the City Commission, investigate ethics complaints and employ an Ethics Officer.

The first Ethics Board meeting of 2018 will take place on January 16. The goal of the City Commission is to fill the vacancy prior to that meeting.
