Airport Installs New Nursing Suite for Moms on the Go
December 19, 2017
The Tallahassee International Airport (TLH) announced today the installation of a new freestanding Mamava lactation suite located post-security in Concourse A. Mamava suites are located in numerous airports and businesses throughout the United States, addressing the need for privacy and cleanliness for lactating moms on the go. TLH is one of only seven airport locations in Florida to feature the amenity.
“Here in Tallahassee, we are proud of the work being done to help further strengthen children and families,” Mayor Andrew Gillum said. “The new nursing suite at Tallahassee International Airport is yet another example of how this government is supporting our families and provides an option for new mothers.”
The new unit was provided through a partnership with the Breastfeeding Policy Workgroup, a collaborative that includes Whole Child Leon, Capital Area Breastfeeding Coalition, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, FSU College of Medicine & Public Health Program and the Leon WIC Program, among others.
“The Airport is a great location for the Mamava suite and was selected in response to customer needs and heavy foot traffic. We are extremely appreciative of the donation for this location, as it supports our core function as a policy-making group dedicated to promoting and supporting breastfeeding in a clean, comfortable and secure environment,” said Courtney Atkins, executive director of Whole Child Leon and member of the Breastfeeding Policy Workgroup.
Created by Mamava, a company dedicated to transforming the culture of breastfeeding by making it easier for more women to achieve their breastfeeding goals, the suite is a self-contained, mobile pod with comfortable benches, a fold-down table, an electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump and a door that can be locked for privacy. The 4-foot by 8-foot pod is meant for individual use but can fit more than one person, as well as mothers with babies and other children in tow.
“We’re thrilled to support breastfeeding mamas at the Tallahassee International Airport,” said Sascha Mayer, co-founder and CEO of Mamava. “We believe that all mamas deserve a clean, comfortable and dignified place to use a breast pump or breastfeed distraction-free—anywhere, anytime. Mamava pods provide flexibility for facilities and easy access for moms.”
