Free Concert, Children's Activities and Patriotic Fireworks Display - Don your brightest red, white and blue, and Celebrate America on July 4 at the annual Independence Day festival at Tom Brown Park. While the official welcoming ceremony will open the event at 5:30 p.m. on the main stage, early attendees can enjoy vendors and activities as early as 5 p.m. The always-moving naturalization ceremony for new American citizens will take place at 6:40 p.m.
This year's main stage entertainment includes three Tallahassee favorites: Kenny Hill Band at 6 p.m., Swingin Harpoon at 7:10 p.m. and Crooked Shooz at 8:30 p.m. The Showmobile stage will feature local community talent, including Tallahassee Community College Dance Company, Digi Vu & Drummers and The Shelter Band, just to mention a few!
As always, the skies will light up after the concert with a spectacular fireworks display, sponsored by Your Own Utilities. Fireworks will begin around 9:45 p.m.
While adults relax and enjoy the music, Celebrate America will also feature a special area just for kids. This year, young ones will enjoy pony rides, a variety of inflatables, supervised arts and crafts, water slides and games galore! Be sure to bring sunscreen, bathing suits, towels and a change of clothes for the kids.
Attendees can stroll the grounds to visit arts and crafts vendors and exhibitors. Bring an appetite because the food vendors will be offering up everything from funnel cakes and gourmet popsicles to seafood and barbecue. A list of sponsors, vendors, exhibitors and more can be found in the media guide on Celebrate America's page on Talgov.com.
StarMetro, the City's mass transit system, will offer free shuttles to Tom Brown Park from the Koger Office Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. Passengers are reminded to park at the Koger complex on Capital Circle Southeast, just south of Old St. Augustine Road. Shuttles will run about every 15 minutes. Return shuttles back to Koger begin once the fireworks show is over.
Basic rules for the Celebrate America event include:
- All vehicular access to Tom Brown Park, except for the StarMetro shuttles, will be closed at 8:30 p.m. or earlier according to parking availability.
- No personal fireworks (including sparklers), grills or personal alcoholic beverages are allowed.
- No personal tents are permitted in the amphitheater.
- Patrons using the StarMetro shuttle are advised that coolers larger than 12 quarts will not be permitted on buses.
- No pets (except service animals) are permitted on the StarMetro shuttle or at the Celebrate America event.
Additionally, some amenities of Tom Brown Park will be impacted by the event. The dog park will close at sunset on July 3 and reopen at sunrise on July 5, and the disc golf course will remain open for limited use on July 4, with some holes not playable due to Celebrate America activities.
