City Launches Program to Assist Residents with Home Repairs
CARES Funding to Support Residents Impacted by COVID-19
August 26, 2020
Today, the City of Tallahassee announced that residents impacted by COVID-19 may apply for up to $15,000 in assistance for home repairs. The City CARES Home Repair Program (CCHRP), which was approved by the Mayor and City Commissioners at last week's workshop, utilizes state CARES Act funding to help stabilize and preserve the homes of Tallahassee residents. The program aims to improve the living conditions of low- and moderate-income households affected by COVID-19 by removing health and safety hazards and/or architectural barriers from their homes.
Applications are now being accepted at Talgov.com/Housing. Up to $15,000 is available per household for eligible repairs, such as:
- Select plumbing repairs
- HVAC repair or replacement
- Faulty electrical wiring
- Roof repair or replacement
- Accessibility challenges
- Broken or leaking windows or screens
- Exterior paint deterioration
- Dangerous or rotting railings, stairs, landings or porches
- Rotting interior flooring
Homeowners living within the City limits who meet income requirements are eligible to apply. Mobile homes are eligible if the unit was manufactured after 1994 and was installed by a professional/licensed installer.
Applicants must show that they have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020. This may include loss of income, increased cost of health care, utilities, dependent care or cost of living expenses, among others. Priority consideration will be given to elderly (62 years and older), disabled, and low-income applicants.
