TPD COPPS Makes Felony Gun Arrest

A Tallahassee Police Department traffic stop led to a felony gun and drug arrest yesterday afternoon at about 3:07 p.m. on Mill Street near Kissimmee Street. A TPD COPPS (Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving) officer was proactively working in the area and conducted the stop for a seatbelt violation. The driver was identified as Deion Washington. Officers were able to search the vehicle as part of the investigation during the traffic stop. Located inside the vehicle were illegal narcotics and a loaded derringer style .38 caliber firearm.
The firearm had been reported stolen in a previous case. It was seized as evidence and impounded at TPD. Mr. Washington was placed under arrest and transported to the Leon County Receiving Facility for processing. For further details, the probable cause affidavit is attached to this release and has been redacted in accordance with Florida Statute 119.07(2)(e).
