Arrests Made for Robbery Team
October 24, 2018
On October 23, 2018 at approximately 1:37am the Tallahassee Police Department was made aware of a robbery that occurred near the intersection of Macomb Street and College Avenue. The victim reported that two suspects approached him as he was entering his car. One of the suspects armed with a silver revolver asked for his car keys at gun point. Instead of taking the car, the suspects took the victim's wallet, cellphone, and computer. After the robbery, the victim observed an SUV parked close to him and asked the female driver to call the police. The two armed robbery suspects re-approached the victim, entered the SUV, and fled the area. Fearing a carjacking and abduction had just occurred, the victim pursued the SUV. While pursuing, the suspects shot at the victim causing him to discontinue the pursuit of the armed robbers.
A follow up investigation revealed the suspects used the victim's bank card at a local store. Surveillance video of the suspects which consisted of a lighter skin male, black male and a white female were captured. TPD Investigator's canvassed other area businesses and obtained better video images of the three described persons.
Later this same day, the Leon County Sheriff's Office and Tallahassee Police Department responded to the Bank of America, located at 5676 Thomasville Road, in reference to a robbery/shooting. The victim was robbed at gunpoint while using the ATM outside the bank. She was shot during the course of the robbery. Deputies used their agency issued tourniquet to treat her while on scene and she is expected to recover. While canvassing the area TPD officers were able to locate the robbery/shooting suspect who had crashed their vehicle after fleeing the crime. Inside the vehicle officers found a white female and the juvenile suspect/shooter identified as Weldn Powell. Both occupants matched the description of the suspect and female involved in the early morning robbery, and previously obtained surveillance photos.
After further investigation Jarred Jenkins was also identified as the 2nd suspect involved in the Macomb Street and College Avenue robbery. Jenkins was taken into custody at his residence by members of TPD's Violent Crime Response Team.
