TPD Offers Free CarFit Safety Program to the Community
April 29, 2019
The Tallahassee Police Department is offering a traffic safety program called CarFit to senior citizens in our community. CarFit was developed by the AAA, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) in partnership. The program will help drivers check how their vehicles fit them so safe adjustments can be made by trained professionals. Older drivers will go through a 12-point checklist with their vehicle recommending minor adjustments that help make their car fit better for comfort and safety. Personal mobility is critical for healthy aging, but our bodies change as we age. Ill-fitting vehicles can make it uncomfortable and unsafe to drive. CarFit is a tool that can work to help keep seniors safer behind the wheel.
TPD officers trained to provide the CarFit program will be working with public safety partners from the Florida Highway Patrol and Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles in order to offer this free service to the community.
