Senior Counseling
Counselor Rosalyn Newport Olsen, LCSW, ACSW, DCSW
Tuesday 11:00am - 4:30pm and Thursday 10:00am - 2:30pm by appointment

A mental health counselor is available two days per week by appointment. Medicare and private insurance for both individual and family counseling will be accepted. To schedule an appointment, call 891-4032 and leave a message.

AARP Tax AideAARP Tax Aide
February 1 - April 15
Monday and Friday 1:30 - 4:30pm by appointment
Wednesday 4:30 - 7:00pm by appointment

Trained volunteers provide assistance in the preparation of Federal Income Taxes and Florida Intangible Tax. The service is especially targeted for seniors and moderate to low-income taxpayers. With the support from the City of Tallahassee, it is the most successful site for e-filing in the Big Bend area. Call 891-4030 during tax season to schedule an appointment.

SHINE Insurance Counseling
The SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) Program, sponsored by the Department of Elder Affairs, provides volunteer counselors to help seniors with insurance-related questions and problems. Specially trained volunteers can assist with Medicare, Medicaid and health insurance questions and problems by providing information, comparing policies, and helping with claims and appeals. Call 891-4000 for appointment.

Senior Financial Counseling
Available to Senior Center participants on an as-needed, pro-bono basis.

Seniors vs. Crime
Wednesday 12:30 - 4:30pm and Thursday 10:00am - 2:00pm

Sponsored by the office of the Florida Attorney General, Seniors vs. Crime is a program where senior volunteers, known as "Senior Sleuths," assist other seniors who feel they may have been victimized by a fraud, scam or unfair business deal. Senior Sleuths investigate cases and serve as mediators in civil cases in an attempt to recover all or part of money lost. Call the Seniors vs. Crime office at 891-4044 to have the case reviewed.

Golden ReviewGolden Review
The Senior Center's bi-monthly newsletter, included as a special pull-out section in the Tallahassee Democrat's Active Living magazine. Look for it the 2nd Sunday of January, March, May, July, September and November. Or pick one up at the Senior Center.

Legal Services of North Florida
Wednesday 11:00am - 1:30pm by appointment

Volunteer attorneys provide legal services to qualifying seniors, age 60 and older. Appointments are required through the Center receptionist. Participants may also request services through the NFLS website at www.lsnf.org.

Lunch Bunch, Provided by Elder Care Services
Monday – Friday Noon

A nutritious hot lunch is served at the Center each day. Individuals age 60 and over are eligible to eat. Donations are accepted. Call Elder Care Services at 922-5554 by Noon the previous day to make your reservation. Some transportation to the meal site is also provided by Elder Care Services.

Leisure Library
Open during regular Senior Center hours

For readers' enjoyment the Library is shelved with a variety of fiction and non-fiction books. Magazines, Elderhostel catalogs, the daily newspaper and large print books are also available. Books are borrowed on an honor system. Please sign in to let us know you are using our Library.
