Bike on Bus

StarMetro LogoWhat's more fun than riding your bike with a friend around town under the Tallahassee sun? Here's a new and refreshing way of getting you where you want to go … B.O.B. Bike On Bus! This bike rack system allows up to two people to load their bikes onto bike racks. It doesn't matter if you bike because the stop is too far, or if you're just enjoying an afternoon outdoors. Just pedal to the closest bus stop and let StarMetro be there to pick you up with your bike. StarMetro offers an exciting commute alternative that is compatible with your active lifestyle. You can now take your bike with you on all routes to work, school, shopping or just for fun! The bus fare is the same — with or without your bicycle! StarMetro buses are equipped with a bike rack that holds two bikes at a time. Bicycles are not permitted inside buses. There is no additional fare for using the bike rack, however, bike racks are first come, first served.

How to Use the Rack

Loading - Load and unload your bike from the curbside even if your bike is the nearest one to the bus. As the bus approaches, have your bike ready to load at the bus stop. If you plan to remove anything from your bike, do so before the bus arrives. Load your bike as quickly as possible following these steps:

1. Lower the rack located in the front of the bus with one hand. If the rack is already lowered and a bike is in position, use the other available bike wheel well. If the bike rack is full, wait for the next available bus.

2. After lowering the rack, lift your bike onto the rack, fitting wheels into the slots. Each slot is labeled for front and rear wheels. If only one bike is being loaded, use the position nearest the bus.

3. The bike support arm is in the down position when not in use. Swing the arm up and into position over the front wheel and as far back as possible. Make sure the support arm is resting on the tire and not on the fender or frame.

4. A spring pulls the arm back and holds the bike securely.

Unloading

1. Notify the bus operator that you are going to remove your bike and exit through the front door of the bus.

2. Remove the bike by releasing the support arm from the front tire. Then lift bike out of rack.

3. If there are no other bikes on the rack, please return the rack to its upright position. The bus operator will greatly appreciate it.

Will your bike fit? - The bike racks will hold no more than 2 bikes at one time. Only single seat, two-wheeled bikes can be used. Bikes as small as 16" and up will fit on the rack.
