CANpaign 2008
Vote Yes During CANpaign 2008 for Continued Recycling
The City of Tallahassee and Leon County are "CANpaigning" again for residents to keep all of their empty aluminum cans for the month of October. For the third year in a row, the City has entered the 2008 national "Cans For Cash" City Recycling Challenge, established by the United States Conference of Mayors and Novelis Corporation.

THe CANpaign 2008 Rally
When:
Saturday, November 8
9 am to 2 pm
Where:
Home Depot Parking Lot
3200 Capital Circle NE
The City is committed to continuing its efforts to remind households throughout the community to recycle. In May 2007, the City's Solid Waste Services increased residential recycling pickup from every other week to weekly collection. Since that time, Tallahassee citizens have increased the amount of recyclables by nearly 30 percent, eliminating the need to transport and bury tons of waste unnecessarily in a landfill.
Everyone interested in participating in the recycling challenge is invited to bring their CANtribution to the CANpaign 2008 Rally on Saturday, November 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of The Home Depot, 3200 Capital Circle NE. At the rally, CANtributors will drop off their aluminum cans for weighing and will be paid $0.40 per pound.
The CANpaign recycling challenge has been a great success in previous years. CANpaign 2006 won recognition from both the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the Solid Waste Association of North America. The community donated nearly 22,000 pounds of cans that year. Last year, 31,440 pounds were collected.
CANpaign 2008 Rally School Challenge
All elementary, middle and high schools in Leon County are being challenged to collect aluminum cans and bring them to the CANpaign Rally 2008. School groups, as well as citizens, can assign their CANtributions to the school of their choice, adding to that school's CANtribution total. The school in each division that brings in the most aluminum cans (by weight) will receive double the money, $0.80 per pound!
Participating college organizations will also compete against one another, in their own challenge, with the winner receiving double the money for their CANtribution.
