How To Read Your Electric Smart Meter
Checking the reading on your new electric Smart Meter couldn't be easier. No dials moving in opposite directions and adding up the reading on different dials. Just a simple-to-read LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) that gives you your current reading in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
Your Smart Meter LCD rotates through a series of three screens on a continuing basis.
- Current Meter Reading
- Network Display
- Test Mode
See the samples below for more detailed information.

This is the display that we are all most interested in, our current meter reading. 1. This is a five digit number that displays the current meter reading in kilowatt-hours. To get your current usage from your last reading, subtract the reading on your last bill from this reading for your total to date.
In the near future, you will be able to get your current usage to date here on our web site or by calling a Customer Service Representative. |
This screen displays information about the network that collects the data from your meter. |
The final screen is the LCD Display Test screen. This tests all displays of the Smart Meter including the meter tampering display. |
![]() The faceplate on the lower part of the meter has information about the meter itself including serial number, City of Tallahassee Utilities meter number, type of meter and LAN ID. |
