Frenchtown Stormwater Master Plan
Description
The engineering firm Post, Buckley, Schuh & Jernigan, Inc., has been hired to develop a stormwater master plan for the Frenchtown Watershed that is approximately bounded by Tharpe Street, Monroe Street, Woodward Street and Tennessee Street. The objectives of the master plan are to define the existing stormwater flooding and erosion problems; to identify their causes, extents, and magnitudes; and to develop structural and non-structural solution alternatives for alleviating the problems. The project includes a stormwater drainage study of the approximately 850-acre watershed locally known as the Frenchtown Drainage Basin. Erosion and yard, house, and street flooding are prevalent throughout the study area. Previous studies of this drainage basin have addressed flooding along the primary drainage system. It will be the intent of this study to address both the primary and secondary conveyance systems and to develop a comprehensive stormwater master plan for the entire study area. The proposed drainage improvements will be designed to provide a 25-year (or greater) level of service throughout the study area. The first phase of this project will define existing flood areas and develop solutions through stormwater engineering and a large public input program. Subsequent phases of the project will develop detailed engineering plans and construction of the proposed improvements.
