Call Street & Cadiz Street Stormwater Improvements
Description
The project area is located in an older section of the city between Park Avenue and the CSX railroad west of Magnolia Drive. When the area was developed, few drainage facilities were installed to collect and convey runoff from the 75-acre watershed. As a result, the entire drainage basin drains to the back yards of properties in the 800 block of East Call Street adjacent to the railroad, causing house, yard and street flooding. Discharge of stormwater across the railroad from this area also causes yard and street flooding on East Tennessee Street east of Franklin Boulevard.

Design and preparation of construction plans for implementing the recommendations of the study that was completed in the first phase of the project are underway. The project will consist of improvements to the drainage systems in Call Street, Oak Street, and Hays Street, construction of a stormwater management facility at the rear of the undeveloped property on the north side of Call Street east of Oak Street that was recently acquired by the City, and installation of a new outfall system north of the CSX Railroad from the railroad to Franklin Boulevard. Plans for construction of the project are anticipated to be complete and environmental permits secured in the fall of 2004. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2005.
