Downtown Stormwater Outfall Project
Description
Drainage systems in this section of "Old Tallahassee" were constructed a long time ago, and they were not sized to collect or convey the runoff reaching them today. Stormwater on Madison Street overflowed onto properties from Gay Street to Woodward Avenue. At times, water was deep enough to impede traffic at Railroad Avenue and to prevent access to businesses and homes. This project consisted of construction of a new stormwater outfall along Madison Street from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to East Stadium Drive to alleviate flooding and convey stormwater from the downtown area to the Regional Stormwater Facility, which was constructed at the old Elberta Crate site near Lake Bradford Road.
