Old Bainbridge Road Water Main Replacement Project
On Monday, April 15, 2013, the City of Tallahassee will begin work on a water main construction project along Old Bainbridge Road from W. Brevard Street to Tharpe Street.
More than 60 years old, the drinking water system in this area is at the end of its useful service life thus replacement is necessary in order to avoid future water service interruptions to area residents. The new water system will provide decades of reliable and safe drinking water to the community.
The City's intent is to complete the water main construction along old Bainbridge Road prior to Leon County resurfacing the road this summer. Due to the location of the water system piping under the road surface, residents and travelers should expect some localized roadway lane closures, as well as periodic detours during the construction period. Additionally, some minor short-term interruptions of water service can be expected as the new water system is being installed. Residents will be notified in advance of any planned service interruptions.
Work is scheduled to take place weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 a.m. with some periodic weekend work occurring in an effort to minimize traffic impacts. At the end of each day's construction activities, the road will be re-opened to traffic.
As part of the City's commitment to customer service, City representatives have been meeting with residents, schools, organizations and businesses in the area to provide project information and answer questions. If you would like to meet one-on-one with a City representative or if you have any general questions or comments related to the construction project, please call 891.6191.
