City Launches 2019 Neighborhood Awards Program
October 10, 2019
Throughout Tallahassee, there are hundreds of vibrant, diverse neighborhoods that together make up who we are as a community. The City of Tallahassee’s 2019 Neighborhood Awards program will highlight the people, programs and accomplishments that enrich our city’s unique charm and recognize the outstanding efforts from this past year that helped to strengthen individual neighborhoods and our entire community.
“Tallahassee neighborhoods are filled with residents who care deeply about this community,” Mayor John Dailey said. “We have a lot to be proud of, and the Neighborhood Awards program provides an opportunity to highlight those who have gone above and beyond to make Tallahassee the best place to live. We look forward to showing our appreciation for our neighbors who are engaged in making Tallahassee an even better, more connected place for us to call home.”
Neighborhoods located within the City limits are encouraged to submit an application outlining their efforts over the past year to bring about positive change within the community. To apply and be considered for the awards, visit Talgov.com/NeighborhoodAwards. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8. Winners will be announced at a reception later this year.
The 2019 Neighborhood Awards program includes recognition in the following categories:
- Best Social Neighborhood Improvement – A project focusing on enhancing the social or cultural aspects of a neighborhood (safety, youth and/or senior program, programs that foster teamwork, etc.)
- Best Physical Neighborhood Improvement – A project focusing on enhancing the physical aspects of a neighborhood (parks, lighting, litter control, housing improvements, etc.)
- Neighbor of the Year – Individual who has exemplified the characteristics of leadership and service in making contributions to the community
- Small Neighborhood of the Year – Neighborhood with 200 homes or fewer that has facilitated improvements in their area that have positively impacted the community in some way
- Large Neighborhood of the Year – Neighborhood with more than 200 homes that has facilitated improvements in their area that have positively impacted the community in some way
To provide applicants with one-on-one technical assistance with the application, a workshop will be held on Monday, Oct. 21, from 5-7 p.m. in the second floor Technology Room at the Smith-Williams Service Center, 2295 Pasco Street. Neighborhood representatives can drop in at any time during the workshop.
