January 09, 2024
Today, just after 12:30 p.m., an officer with the Tallahassee Police Department was dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance at the Greens at Old St. Augustine Apartments, located at 2001 Old Saint Augustine Road.
Upon arrival, the first responding officer observed a male subject, later identified as 17-year-old Joshua Tyler, moving between parked cars. Without warning, Tyler emerged from the vehicles and fired multiple rounds at the officer. Thankfully, the officer was uninjured in the shooting.
Tyler fled the scene on foot, prompting an immediate and extensive response to locate and apprehend him. Despite how quickly the scene unfolded, the officer was able to provide a suspect description, including the last thing Tyler was seen wearing. Multiple responding units and partner law enforcement agencies assisted with the search. Within three hours of the shooting, officers located Tyler at the Whispering Pines Apartments, located at 2731 Blairstone Road. The neighboring complex is less than 1000 feet from where the incident occurred.
This incident highlights the challenges officers face daily in ensuring public safety. The swift arrest of Joshua Tyler serves as a testament to multiple law enforcement agencies working quickly and collaboratively to apprehend a violent offender and keep the public safe, despite the challenges they face.
