Commission Guides Tallahassee’s Future
City Develops Five-Year Strategic Plan
September 04, 2019
Tallahassee celebrates its bicentennial in 2024, and the City Commission is setting the groundwork now for the community’s future. In January, the Commission directed the development of a five-year Strategic Plan. Today, the Commission discussed the plan’s progress, reviewed the priority area goals and provided direction to further guide the setting of measurable objectives and five-year targets.
The priority areas and goals are:
- Public Trust: To enhance public trust through ethical business practices and transparency
- Public Safety: To be a safe, resilient and inclusive community
- Quality of Life: To be a creative and inclusive community with beautiful public spaces that protect and promote resources and culture
- Economic Development: To advance the City of Tallahassee as a competitive, innovative and sustainable regional economic hub
- Impact of Poverty: To be a leading community partner that actively connects residents to resources that remove economic and social barriers
- Public Infrastructure: To be the leading publicly owned utility that supports a growing and progressive community
The strategic planning process began in January with a review of the City’s organizational mission, vision and values statements by a 15-member working group that included community members and City employees.
To ensure a well-rounded plan that is reflective of Tallahassee residents, the City engaged the community through pop-up events and an online survey from February to June.
The community’s input combined with the City’s 45 existing strategic planning documents sets the stage for defining the goals and objectives that will meet the Commission’s five-year vision. The final plan will be presented to the Commission in October.
