TPD Makes Arrests in Homicide and Kidnapping Investigation (updated 12/14 @ 9:04 a.m.)

After a thorough investigation, the Tallahassee Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, has made two arrests in connection with the homicide and kidnapping involving Kelton Washington. Investigators have been working around the clock to locate the suspects and have arrested Christopher Rumph and Calandra Cooper in connection with the case. Mr. Rumph is currently in the Gadsden County Jail and Ms. Cooper is currently in the Leon County Detention Facility. The Tallahassee Police Department would like to thank the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office and everyone who assisted the Violent Crimes Unit with this investigation.
TPD's Violent Crimes Unit continues to investigate the incident and believes there are additional suspects involved in the incident. Original Press Release 12/13, 10:41 a.m. - TPD Investigates Homicide Involving a Missing Person
On Wednesday night, December 12, 2018, at 9:08 p.m., officers with the Tallahassee Police Department arrived at the Budget Inn located at 1402 West Tennessee Street in response to a missing person, Kelton Washington. Officers met with concerned family members who reported he was possibly at the Budget Inn and wanted to report him missing when they were unable to locate him there. Officers were informed the family of Mr. Washington last saw him in Havana, Florida on Sunday evening, December 9, 2018.
Investigators from TPD's Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation due to signs of foul play involving Mr. Washington's disappearance. Investigators began an extensive investigation which, within hours, led them to an area in Gadsden County where Mr. Washington was found deceased. The Tallahassee Police Department is working with the Gadsden County Sheriff's Department on this case which has been classified as a homicide.
The case has been assigned to investigators with TPD's Violent Crimes Unit. At this time they are interviewing all known witnesses and processing the scene. Investigators are asking anyone with information about this case to please call them at (850) 891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS
