Original Release
In order to enhance the safety of the community and our employees, effective Monday, March 16th, TPD is limiting access to the main TPD headquarters out of abundance of caution surrounding the Coronavirus.
We understand the necessity of the public to have access to incident and crash reports, background checks, and to be able to retrieve their property from our Property and Evidence section.
In order to facilitate this, the following procedures have been instituted:
To obtain a copy of an incident or crash report, please send the request via E-mail to TPDPublicrecords@talgov.com, fax at 850-891-4556, or in writing via US Mail at TPD Records Request, 234 East Seventh Ave, Tallahassee, Florida, 32303. We will then be able to send the requested documents back via E-mail, fax machine, or US Mail. If, for some reason, these methods are not available to the public, we will attempt to accommodate the request in other ways.
Background checks and associated paperwork will be coordinated through the Records section, who can be reached at 850-891-4221.
To recover property from our Property and Evidence Section, the public will be required to stay in the lobby and use the provided telephone to speak with a property technician. The property will be brought to the lobby and released there. As a reminder, ID is required to recover property at our HQ.
To make a police report, the public is encouraged to use our online and phone reporting services rather than coming to Headquarters.
