TPD Makes Arrest in Two Convenience Store Burglaries

On Saturday night, April 4th, at approximately 10:30pm, TPD officers responded to an alarm at the Sunoco Gas Station at 1417 South Monroe Street. When they arrived, officers discovered the front door had been shattered. The investigation revealed the suspect had made entry and stolen 60 packs of cigarettes and two lighters. A description of the suspect was obtained from the store’s surveillance cameras.
Approximately four hours later, officers responded to another alarm, this time at the Marathon Gas Station at 1011 South Magnolia Drive. The front door had been shattered and another 60 packs of cigarettes had been stolen.
Responding officers located the arrestee, Pye, walking in the area immediately after the crime. He fit the basic build of the person seen on the cameras and officers attempted to make contact with him. As the officer exited their vehicle, Pye immediately fled on foot, dropping a bag which contained 60 packs of Newport cigarettes along with other items.
He was quickly apprehended. Based on the evidence in his possession and the footage from the cameras, he was arrested and charged for the two Burglaries and additional crimes.
