Carjacking Suspect Arrested
April 27, 2020
In the early morning hours of Thursday, March 12th, Tallahassee police officers responded to the 1900 block of Nani Drive to investigate a stabbing. The two adult victims reported they had been sleeping in a van with an acquaintance, later identified as Anthony Coleman, when he suddenly attacked them with a sharp object in their sleep.
The female victim was in the driver’s seat and the male victim was in the passenger side seat with Coleman in the second row behind them when the attack began.
Coleman was able to get the car started and the two victims were able to escape before Coleman drove off. Both victims were transported to a local hospital where they were treated.
At the time of the crime, the suspect was only known to the victims as “Tattoo Johnny,” based on the fact he was a street tattoo artist.
Through extensive research, investigators identified the suspect and believed he fled to Crandall, Georgia following the crime. Warrants were obtained last week for Armed Carjacking and two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. They contacted the Murray County Sheriff’s Department for assistance in locating Coleman.
Coleman was apprehended on Saturday in a motel in Chatsworth, Georgia. He is being held in Georgia awaiting extradition to Florida.
The van he stole during the crime has not been recovered.
The Tallahassee Police Department would like to thank the Murray County Sheriff’s Department and the Chatsworth, Georgia Police Department for their assistance in this case.
