UPDATED: Tallahassee Police Investigate Homicide

The victim in last night’s shooting has been identified by his family as Joshua Purcell, 16. He was going into his junior year at Leon High School. Chief Revell extends his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. TPD's victim advocates are assisting the family, and Leon County Schools has grief counseling available for both students and staff.
Investigators are interviewing witnesses, reviewing evidence from the scene and social media, and completed a canvas of the surrounding area. At this time, investigators are working to determine a suspect and motive for the shooting, which occurred in the parking lot at Bethel AME Church, 501 W. Orange Avenue.

The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating a Homicide, which occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, in the 500 block of West Orange Avenue.
Officers responded to the area and discovered a deceased juvenile male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Tallahassee Police Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident but did not speak with an officer on scene or anyone with information about the shooting to please call 850-891-4200. They may also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.
