TPD Currently Investigating Shooting

700 Block of Apache Street

April 04, 2018

Update - May 8 at 4:00pm

On April 3, 2018, the Tallahassee Police Department was dispatched to 2818 Harwood Street reference to a traffic crash. When officers arrived, they found the driver of the vehicle Kelvin Farmer, Jr. had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Sadly, Farmer succumbed to his injuries. This case was assigned to investigators with TPD's Violent Crimes Unit who immediately began working on the case. After a thorough investigation, the Violent Crimes Unit found probable cause to arrest Antonio Smith for the death of Mr. Farmer. Antonio Smith was arrested on May 7, 2018 by members of the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and later transported to the Leon County Dentition Facility.

The Tallahassee Police Department would like to thank all those who assisted the Violent Crimes Unit with this investigation. This case is still an open and active investigation, and TPD will provide updates as they become available.

The probable cause is attached to this release and has been redacted in accordance with Florida Statute 119.

Deceased:

  • Kelvin R. Farmer, Black Male, 12/26/1992

Arrested:

  • Antonio S. Smith, Black Male, 08/06/1996

Charges:

  • Homicide- Willful Kill Murder Not Premeditated During Other Felony pursuant to Florida Statute 782.04(4)

Update - April 4 at 2:00pm

As the investigation continues, the Tallahassee Police Department is releasing the name of the victim in the shooting. The victim has been identified as Kelvin R. Farmer, Jr. who sadly passed away from his injuries. Chief DeLeo extends his thoughts and prayers to Mr. Farmer’s family.

TPD’s Violent Crimes Investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and process evidence. Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, but did not speak with an officer on scene or anyone with information about the shooting to please call (850) 891-4200 or if they wish to remain anonymous to please call Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS.

Original Release

The Tallahassee Police Department is currently investigating a shooting in the 700 block of Apache Street which was reported at approximately 10:49 p.m. Tuesday night. Arriving officers and emergency personnel provided immediate medical attention to the victim who was then taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

The case has been assigned to investigators with TPD's Violent Crimes Unit. At this time they are interviewing all known witnesses and processing the scene. Investigators are asking anyone with information about this case to please call them at (850) 891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS.
