City Opens New Dog Park with Barks and Books
July 14, 2017
Grab your pup and your kiddo and head downtown for the grand opening of the City of Tallahassee’s newest dog park.
This new amenity is located on the northwest side of E. Peck Greene Park in the Chain of Parks downtown (adjacent to the LeRoy Collins Leon County Library). Featuring two fenced play areas, this creates the perfect social space for dogs (and their people) who live, work or visit downtown.
To open the park, playful pooches and their cute kid sidekicks are invited to join City officials for a special ribbon cutting on Tuesday, July 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Following the ribbon cutting, dogs and kids alike can enjoy the reading corner, hosted by library staff, that will feature dog-related stories. An activity table for the kids and free tennis balls and Frisbees for the pups will also be available. To capture the moment, there will be a free photo fun area.
If you and your dog would rather enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere, there will be plenty of shady, grassy areas to lounge around. A food truck will be on hand for attendees to purchase lunch, and there will be free cupcakes and pupcakes for dessert. There will also be plenty of water on hand to keep everyone hydrated.
For the health and safety of all attendees, owners may not bring more than three dogs. All dogs must be over four months old, properly vaccinated, healthy and display a current rabies tag. Waste bags are available on site. Only adults or children over 56 inches tall who are accompanied by an adult are permitted inside the dog park.
E. Peck Greene Park is the City’s fourth dog park. You can also take your dog to the other parks located in Tom Brown Park, San Luis Mission Park and Boulevard Park. The City of Tallahassee Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department operates and maintains 87 parks. For more information, visit Talgov.com/Parks.
