Blood Drive at the ASC on Saturday - This Saturday, Nov. 9, the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (ASC) is partnering with OneBlood to host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Everyone who donates blood at the ASC will receive a Golden Paw voucher and a free t-shirt. Donors can use their Golden Paw voucher to receive a waived adoption fee for any shelter pet through January 31, 2014. More than 100 animals at the ASC are waiting to share their unconditional love and loyalty with you.
In addition to enriching the life of a shelter pet, you can also make a powerful impact in the lives of people by donating blood on Saturday. Each main blood component - red cells, platelets and plasma - has a distinct characteristic that can be used to help different types of patients heal and enjoy a healthy life. Because of the function of these components, one whole blood donation can save up to three lives!
To donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old, in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. With written consent from their parent/guardian, 16 year olds who meet the other two requirements may also donate blood. Applicants must be 18 years old to adopt an animal.
If you have questions about donating blood or would like more information about OneBlood, please call 877-7181 or visit www.oneblood.org.
The Animal Service Center, located adjacent to Tom Brown Park at 1125 Easterwood Drive, is operated and maintained by the City’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department.
