StarMetro Offers Free Rides in Support of Get on Board Day
National Campaign Emphasizes the Importance of Public Transportation
April 24, 2019
StarMetro, the City of Tallahassee’s public transit service, will join other public transportation systems nationwide on Thursday, April 25, in celebrating Get on Board Day. Fare-free rides will be offered on all of StarMetro’s fixed routes that day to encourage citizens to use public transit.
Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), Get on Board Day encourages people to support public transportation and showcases the benefits it brings to communities.
While riding the bus at no cost on April 25, come to C.K. Steele Plaza, located at 111 W. Tennessee Street, from 3-6 p.m. to celebrate getting on board with StarMetro. There will be light refreshments.
With over 83,000 trips a week, StarMetro help residents get to work, school, restaurants, shopping, appointments and more. Public transportation is a cornerstone of local economies. Every $1 invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns, powering community growth and revitalization. Communities that invest in public transit also reduce the nation’s overall carbon emissions.
StarMetro strives to make the commuting experience enjoyable by offering free Wi-Fi on all buses, as well as at C.K. Steele Plaza. Instead of focusing on traffic, riders can read the news, update social media or catch up on work.
StarMetro also provides a variety of services to make planning your trip by bus easy. To find routes near you, look at StarMetro’s ride guide at Talgov.com/StarMetro. Riders can also download the City’s free DigiTally app and go to Find My Bus to locate a bus in real time. Don’t have exact change?
