"Invisible History" Comes to Life
City to Host Free Movie Night in Cascades Park
February 18, 2022
Expand your understanding of local history with a thoughtful movie night in the park. The City of Tallahassee will show "Invisible History - Middle Florida's Hidden Roots" on Friday, Feb. 25, in Cascades Park, 1001 S. Gadsden St., beginning at 7 p.m.
"Invisible History" is an Emmy-winning, locally produced documentary that explores the history of plantations and the enslaved in North Florida. The movie aims to advance a sense of place and identity for hundreds of thousands of African Americans, while attempting to trace the economic, social and political effects of this history on the local community today.
Arrive early to find the perfect spot to enjoy this insightful film. Free popcorn will be available while supplies last.
In addition to this special presentation, there are many ways residents can celebrate Black History Month and learn more about the men and women who have helped shape our community, state and nation. To honor the rich history of Black Americans, resources available to the community all year long include the City's John G. Riley House and Museum, Smokey Hollow Commemoration, Civil Rights Heritage Walk, the Frenchtown Heritage Walk featuring Soul Voices and the MLK history markers featuring "Voices of the Movement."
