Park Avenue Ditch Stabilization at Blair Stone Road Bridge

The Park Avenue Ditch Stabilization Project will address erosion and improve maintenance access along the Park Avenue drainage ditch, starting just east of the Redwood Drive/Inglewood Drive intersection and ending just east of the Blair Stone Road Bridge.  Erosion of the ditch underneath Blair Stone Road Bridge has caused steep side slopes and deep drop-offs and restricts access to maintenance trucks.  At the start of the ditch, east of the Redwood Drive/Inglewood Drive intersection, fencing and a sewer manhole restrict access to maintenance trucks.

To address these issues, the existing eroded ditch under the Blair Stone Bridge will be replaced with a Gabion lined channel. Maintenance access will be improved on the north side of the ditch by modifying existing fencing, sewer manholes, and re-grading slopes underneath the Blair Stone Bridge.

Park Avenue Ditch Project

Frequently Asked Questions

When will construction start, and how long will it last?
Construction will start in spring 2021 and last about 6 months.

Will the project impact existing trees along the ditch?
Some trees will be removed as needed for construction access. See sheet 16 of the Plans for additional information.

Will construction be disruptive to the neighborhood?
Since most of the major construction activities will occur underneath the Blair Stone Road bridge, construction activities should not be significantly disruptive to the neighborhood; however, construction vehicles/trucks will need to use neighborhood roads to access work areas.  Construction vehicles will use Park Avenue, Ferndale Drive, Valley Road, and Inglewood Drive.  The City will do everything possible to minimize inconveniences to residents and businesses. Construction hours will normally begin after sunrise and end prior to sunset, with no construction allowed on Sundays.

Will access to Governor’s Park trails be impacted by construction?
During construction, pedestrians and cyclists will not have access to Governor’s Park from the Inglewood Neighborhood (Redwood Drive/Inglewood Drive intersection).

Who will oversee construction?
The project will be constructed by a private contractor; however, the City will oversee all construction activities and will have a full-time inspector available to address any issues that arise during construction.

Who can I talk with if I have questions or concerns?
Please contact Ray Einarson, P.E., City of Tallahassee Water Resources Engineering Division, at 850-891-6881, ray.einarson@talgov.com. Ray is also available to meet one-on-one to discuss the project.
