People, Places and Possibilities Come Together in Neighborhoods
CONA, City, County Set to Recognize Winning Neighborhoods and Neighbors

The Council of Neighborhood Associations’ 37th annual awards reception will take place on Monday, June 19, at the Women’s Club of Tallahassee, 1513 Cristobal Drive. Attendees can network and enjoy refreshments beginning at 5:30 p.m. The ceremony will start at 6 p.m.
The event is hosted jointly by the Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA), the City of Tallahassee and Leon County Government.
Leon County and the City of Tallahassee will respectively recognize two outstanding Small Neighborhoods of the Year (200 or fewer homes) and two Large Neighborhoods of the Year (more than 200 homes). The County will also honor one Unincorporated Area Neighborhood of the Year (outside the city limits). Winning neighborhoods will receive a sign to display at their entrance and bragging rights as a 2017 Neighborhood of the Year.
The County and City will also recognize their respective 2017 Neighbor of the Year. Nominees considered for these categories are individuals who have exemplified the characteristics of leadership and service in making contributions to the community.
The nominees for Neighborhood of the Year – Large Category are Betton Hills Neighborhood Association, The Greater Apalachee Ridge Estates Neighborhood Association, Greater Bond Neighborhood Association, Killearn Homes Association, Lafayette Park Neighborhood Association, Levy Park Neighborhood Association, Myers Park and Providence Neighborhood Association.
The nominees for Neighborhood of the Year – Small Category are Ashton Woods Homeowners Association, Blairstone Forest Homeowner’s Association, Florida A & M Subdivision Neighborhood Association, Plantation at Heritage Oaks and Silver Ridge Estates Neighborhood Association.
The nominees for Neighborhood of the Year – Unincorporated Category are Avondale Homeowner’s Association and Birdview Estates Neighborhood Association.
The nominees for Neighbor of the Year are Bettye Belinfantie (Silver Ridge Estates), Marie Bryant and Torrio Osborne (South City Revitalization Neighborhood Community Association), Gladys Caswell (Callen Neighborhood Association), Wanda Daniels (Greater Bond Neighborhood Association), Rich Day (Levy Park), Donna Elliot (Seminole Manor Neighborhood Association), Mary Frederick (Woodland Drives), John Piers Rawling (Myers Park), Albert “Bobby” Reeves (Macon School Community Association), Charley M. Schwartz (Killearn Homes Association) and Melissa Templar (SummerBrooke Property Owners Association).
Winners of the Neighborhood and Neighbor of the Year awards will be announced at the reception, where CONA will also present its annual Public Servant of the Year Award and the 2017 Business Neighbor of the Year Award.
