City Prepared for Weather Threats
Sandbag Locations Open, Crews on Standby
June 20, 2017
The City of Tallahassee continues to monitor the changing weather conditions in the Gulf of Mexico, which may produce heavy rainfall and localized flooding in our area over the next few days.Rainfall in Tallahassee/Leon County will be heaviest today; 2-4 inches of rain is expected, with certain areas receiving 6 inches or more.
In Tallahassee, there are often power outages associated with severe weather conditions. The City is prepared to respond quickly to any potential impacts. Citizens are encouraged to download the free DigiTally app, which makes it easy to report issues such as downed trees and power outages.
Road safety
During heavy rain and flooding, crews will continue to check areas of known flooding to remove obstructions and post warnings for drivers if needed. All motorists should use caution and not drive cars through flooded areas.
Sandbags
To assist citizens with preparing for heavy rainfall and potential flooding, the City has opened sandbag locations at James Messer Park South (2830 Jackson Bluff Road) and Winthrop Park (1601 Mitchell Avenue). Sandbags are limited to 25 bags per household. Citizens need to bring shovels to fill bags themselves. Locations will not be staffed, but crews will monitor and provide additional sand and bags as needed.
