See What Makes City Services Shine
Neighborhood Leadership Academy Now Accepting Applications
August 07, 2017
Are you involved in your neighborhood or the go-to person that curious friends always ask about community issues? Neighborhood association leaders and community members interested in learning more about City programs and services are encouraged to take part in the annual Neighborhood Leadership Academy (NLA) hosted by the City of Tallahassee.
Applications are currently being accepted. Citizens interested in participating can submit a request online at Talgov.com. Registration is limited.
“When our friends and neighbors are engaged, it makes the whole community stronger,” Mayor Andrew Gillum said. “The Neighborhood Leadership Academy is a great opportunity for our residents to not only learn more about our city, but to invest in it as well.”
NLA offers an instructional and interactive forum designed to empower citizens with specialized knowledge about how their local government operates. With a focus on public safety and customer services, hands-on experiences will allow participants to better understand City programs and services and how to access them. Some highlights include touring City facilities, peering through night vision equipment used by TAC team officers and climbing aboard a StarMetro electric bus. NLA also serves as a venue for participants to provide feedback on how services could be enhanced.
NLA is presented as an eight week course, with participants meeting every Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. The first class will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
To kick things off, City officials will welcome the 2017 participants and provide an overview of the City’s organizational structure. During the remaining seven weeks, class participants will engage with staff and learn about various aspects of City operations. In order to maximize the experience, participants are encouraged to attend every session.
